Last weekend a small group of A-grade swimmers from Lurgan A.S.C took part in the Ulster Youth Championships showing excellent times and gaining good placings. Colin Forbes (16) was in the peak of fitness and gained personal best times in most of his events, he also made most of the finals. Colin achieved club records and silver and a bronze medal. Some of his best results were 200m I.M 2.23.82 (pb & cr) 2nd, 100m backcrawl 1.06.64 (pb & cr) 3rd and pb’s and cr’s in the 200m and 400m freestyle. Dean McAlinden (15) was on form making his mark in his favourite stroke as he took the silver medals in both the 100m and 200m breaststroke. Dean also achieved pb’s in the I.M, freestyle and butterfly showing improvement in all the strokes. Harry O’Hagan (15) has worked hard to gain A-grade times and swam well in the 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle 1.04.16 (pb). Rory Brennan (14) had great swims with pb’s in 200m I.M 2.43.99 and breaststroke and freestyle. Maureen Lavery (14) was the only girl in the team; she had a great swim in the 100m freestyle in a pb time of 1.11.49. In this tough competition and against the best in the province these swimmers have done the club proud, well done all involved.
