Lurgan Amateur Swimming Club recently took part in the Swim Ulster Age Group Championships. Despite being one of the smallest clubs represented, with only five swimmers, it took away a fabulous medal haul of 10 gold’s, a silver, a bronze and final places along with personal best times. Each of the competitors had to make A grade qualifying times to be entered into the competition within their age group. Jordan Leckey (13) was one of the top performers of the meet winning all of the nine events for his age group. Jordan showed great adaptability as he took gold in all strokes at 100m and 200m distance, and the 200m I.M. Having put a great deal of work in to his frontcrawl, it was delightful to see him swim pbs. In the 200m frontcrawl he recorded 2.14.10 and in the 100m frontcrawl he took 4 seconds off his previous best to be the only swimmer of the meet to break the minute. Niamh Doran (11) made a significant mark in the meet and is certainly one of the top girls in her age in Ulster swimming. Niamh took the gold in the 200m frontcrawl in a pb time of 2.35.50, silver in the 200m I.M. in a pb time of 2.59.83, bronze in the 100m butterfly in a pb time of 1.26.37. Niamh also finished 6th in the 100m backcrawl and gained pbs in other strokes. Mark McKinless also recorded good times, the best being 100m frontcrawl 1.13.29 and 200m backcrawl 2.54.98. Aaron Clarke also swam well taking 8th place in the 100m butterfly in a pb time of 1.46.50. Luke Kerr also deserves a mention as he turned up not fully recovered from the flu and swam his 200m frontcrawl on his pb before having to retire.
